Case Study: Ingredient Innovation – Guidance for Natural Product Manufacturers

What does true ingredient innovation look like? As consumers with an eye for natural products maintain a top line focus on transparency, demanding to know the origin and contents of each ingredient included on a product label, manufacturers must decide how far they are willing to go to be a market leader. In today’s increasingly health-conscious market, ingredient innovators have figured out that it is not just about a catchy advertising or capitalizing on the mention of a popular ingredient, but rather the history and use of the ingredients themselves – where they come from, how they’ve been harvested and most importantly, how that ingredient makes a given product a unique or special standing in a crowded marketplace. During this session benefit from a case study exploration of ingredient innovation – from ideation to end result – as you are provided with an inside view into how one company successfully established itself as an ingredient innovator.

Opportunities & Challenges: How High is the Upside for Hemp/CBD as Food Ingredients?

Despite the long standing global use of cannabis as a homeopathic pain reliever, regulatory questions remain over use of hemp and CBD in foods for humans and pets. While uncertainty over any future federal Schedule 1 drug status hangs low over the industry, the NDA filed by GW Pharmaceuticals and FDA’s response to that filing may close the door forever. Yet, as companies seek to understand the lawful nature of hemp seed, hemp oil, and CBD in finished products, this panel will offer perspectives from scientists, legal counsel and business executives on both the opportunities and challenges of using these ingredients for both human and animal consumption.
